Crappie fishing in Lake Arbuckle.
I decided to do some crappie fishing in Lake Arbuckle and do some crappie fishing.Lake Arbuckle is east of Lake Wales,Fl.It is a beautiful unspoiled lake surrounded by the Avon Park Bombing range on the north and east sides. This lake has a nice canopy of cypress trees surrounding it.It’s a pretty shallow lake averaging around 3 to 8 ft.
When I was launching the boat one of the locals said that the crappie fishing was slow. He was right but going ahead I went to the points in the center of the lake and started there. This was the first time I had been there fishing for crappie. I made a drift and managed to catch one tiny crappie. So after making another drift and catching another tiny crappie. I decided to move to the north side of the lake and try there. On the first drift I caught a crappie about 3/4 lb. A little better fish.
Bonus catching catfish
Then I had a hard strike and fought it for a minute. Then I realized I had a nice channel catfish of about 2 1/2 lbs. So I aligned myself out a little deeper on the next drift. The first fish to hit on this drift was a 1 1/2 lb largemouth bass. Shortly after that I had another hard hit and after a nice battle netted a 2 lb blue catfish.
Moving a little deeper I was able to find some fish with a little better size. After setting up a couple more times I managed to catch 4 more crappie of 1lb. I wound up with 7 crappie, 2 catfish and one largemouth bass. Then the wind started to pick up and before you know it the lake was almost white capping so I decided to call it quits. I was disappointed at the size but I’ll take what I could get.Well that about it.For more detailed content about fishing in Central Florida check ot my E-book on the E-book page.Stay tuned as I will be bringing you some videos on this trip and other fishing trips both fresh and saltwater in Central and South Florida this year.
