Bass fishing with wild shiners.

Bass fishing with wild shiners is the best way to catch Florida bass.

Saddle creek bass from bank

Fishing for trophy bass requires a lot of patience.Bass fishing with wild shiners is your best bet to connect with a fish of a lifetime. Most of the trophy bass caught here in Central Florida are caught using shiners.Bass love em. All the lakes around Central Florida are perfect for live baiting for bass. They are shallow dish pan shaped lakes. Ringed with grass patches and lily pads eelgrass you name it.

Rigging for live shiners.

There are some places that you can fish for bass on the bank. But most of the time a boat is required to get to the honey holes. Bass fishing in Florida requires a little home work if you want to catch a trophy. Rigging for live bait is a pretty simple affair. The two methods I use are: #1 using a 2 1/2 in”oval float about three feet above the bait.

The second method is free lining without a float.Just tying your hook on the line and casting out. Method #1 is as simple as it gets.Just anchor up on your intended honey hole. And cast out to the cover and watch your float until you get a strike. With free lining more attention needs to be paid to your line.To see what it’s doing.Watching your line take off towards the cover indicates that you are hooked up. Locating places for bass fishing.

In Florida you don’t have to go far to find places to fish. In Polk County there are 261 named lakes. That’s not counting phosphate pits, private lakes and rivers. Places like Saddle Creek park in between Lakeland and Auburndale,Fl on highway 92. This place is some old phosphate pits that they made a park out of. This is a good place to go if you don’t have a boat. You can fish off the bank in many spots there.I’ve caught some trophy fish there with shiners fishing right off the bank.

Jose Lopez with a nice one

As you can see from the picture above my boat is just a 16.5 ft Alumacraft boat. Combined with a 25 hp Mercury it’s a nice rig. You just have to watch the weather.

So you can also get into some of the fishing for Peacock bass. And some other exotic’s down in south Florida. The techniques don’t change but you might be fishing in a canal system. Which is better for bank fishing. Remember to pick up after yourself. You would not like it if I came to your house and took a dump on your front porch. We have a beautiful state let’s keep it that way.

Well that about wraps it up for this post.If you would like more info check out my E-book Central Florida Fishing.

So stay tuned for future posts. I’ll show you some of the best bass fishing lakes in central Florida.

You want to catch bigger fish.

The bigger the bait bigger the fish really holds true.

You want to catch bigger fish.Bigger bait bigger fish. The saying that has truth to it.A big fish can take a bigger bait than a small fish.A smaller fish won’t get hooked as a bigger fish will. A small fish will hit the bait but can’t swallow it.The fish will pick it up by the tail. And run with it.When setting the hook you get nothing.

Here at Country Boys Tackle Box. We solve this problem by combining a Crawbug trailer with the Scorpion jig.

Scorpion jigs and Crawbug trailers

A Crawbug is hooked in the head portion of the bait. To give a bigger appearance. ( here’s a tip don’t store plastic baits with your jigs. The oils in the plastic will destroy your jigs. Also the plastic skirts and plastic collars. The paint can be stripped also. When not in use take the plastic trailers off and store seperately). This will make your baits last longer.

By using a plastic worm like the C-tail which is 8″ long you can eliminate some of the little guys and focus more on the bigger fish. I also use a giant plastic worm made by Mann’s. It’s a 13″ long monster. But it produces some larger fish on the average.

Pair up the Scorpion jig and Crawbug trailer to catch bigger fish. So give this fishing gear a try.

You can also use the in-line buzz bait like the viper in-line buzzbait. It is a bigger buzzbait with a large buzz blade on it. This bait will churn up the top of the surface and lead to some nice surface strikes. I recommend it for an early morning or night fishing. So good luck and see on the water.
