You want to catch bigger fish.

The bigger the bait bigger the fish really holds true.

You want to catch bigger fish.Bigger bait bigger fish. The saying that has truth to it.A big fish can take a bigger bait than a small fish.A smaller fish won’t get hooked as a bigger fish will. A small fish will hit the bait but can’t swallow it.The fish will pick it up by the tail. And run with it.When setting the hook you get nothing.

Here at Country Boys Tackle Box. We solve this problem by combining a Crawbug trailer with the Scorpion jig.

Scorpion jigs and Crawbug trailers

A Crawbug is hooked in the head portion of the bait. To give a bigger appearance. ( here’s a tip don’t store plastic baits with your jigs. The oils in the plastic will destroy your jigs. Also the plastic skirts and plastic collars. The paint can be stripped also. When not in use take the plastic trailers off and store seperately). This will make your baits last longer.

By using a plastic worm like the C-tail which is 8″ long you can eliminate some of the little guys and focus more on the bigger fish. I also use a giant plastic worm made by Mann’s. It’s a 13″ long monster. But it produces some larger fish on the average.

Pair up the Scorpion jig and Crawbug trailer to catch bigger fish. So give this fishing gear a try.

Scorpion jig

You can also use the in-line buzz bait like the viper in-line buzzbait. It is a bigger buzzbait with a large buzz blade on it. This bait will churn up the top of the surface and lead to some nice surface strikes. I recommend it for an early morning or night fishing. So good luck and see on the water.

Top 5 bass fishing lures I use.

When I need to choose some bass fishing lures to catch bigger bass I use these 5 lures

The top 5 bass fishing lures I use.Would be a Swim jig. I’m partial to the Country Boys Tackle Box Scorpion Swim jigs. That’s my brand but whatever brand you choose to use make sure you use a plastic trailer. Scorpion Swim jigs are a bait that can be retrieved in and around all types of aquatic vegatation. They can be cast, pitched,or flipped into or around all types of cover. Including rockpiles and wood cover. Change weights and you can work these baits in different depths. They come in different sizes and color combo’s. Put a plastic trailer on and make the bait bigger, bigger bait bigger bass.

Next the Ultra spinnerbait is a bait that can be used in a variety of ways. They can be burned over grass flats. Slow rolled in deeper water or buzzed thru the lily pads.I use both the willow leaf and Colorado blades. I use the willow leaf blades in deeper water. I use the Colorado blades in shallower water and burn them thru grass and lily pads.

Use a Ultra spinnerbait to catch larger bass.

The C-tail plastic worm are the most favorite bass fishing lure of all time. They we’re the first true bass fishing lure. They come in a variety of sizes and colors. They can be cast, pitched,or flipped in differents types of cover. I have caught many a bass on this lure.

C-tail plastic worm

The Rapala minnow type is one of my all time favorites.I’ve been using them for a long time. This bait produces some nice surface strikes by jerking in short jerks. Or you can crank it like a crankbait also. I like the black and gold color for dark tannic stained water. The black and silver for clear water.

Last but not least is the crawbug plastic trailer. Combo this with the Swim jig combining the two makes a bigger bait.Bigger bait bigger fish. The plastic trailer comes in different styles and designs most imitate a crawdad or a minnow type. So these are the 5 top bass fishing lures I would use to catch bigger bass. That wraps it for this post for more info like this check out my E-book Central Florida Fishing.

Phosphate pit fishing in Florida

Welcome this weeks fishing was in a phosphate pit. South of Bartow,Fl. This particular fish was about 3.5 lbs. It was caught on a football swing jig with a 7″ Zoom trick worm. The trick worm has been a go to bait when things are slow. It has produced well for me.

I’ve also been catching some nice bass on our swim jig the Scorpion. Black and blue has been the go to color in the swim jig. With plastic worms Junebug with gold flake has done its job for me. In the past few weeks with the Zoom worms. Fishing in Phosphate pits can produce some heavyweight bass.

Phosphate pit fish will hit the same selection of baits as lake fish. Shiners, plastic worms, spinnerbaits, and more. Out of all the baits. Shiners will consistently out fish artificials for big bass.

Shiners are the key to catching large bass. They are a natural prey source. So largemouth bass feed readily on them. Although shiners are quite pricey they work better than most baits out there. The fishing gear I like to use for shiner fishing is a 7′ ft medium to medium heavy rod with a Ambasseudor 5500C reel. And 20lb test mono line.

There are a few places around Central Florida that you can fish in phosphate pits. Teneroc management area has a nice population of bass and other types of panfish. Also Saddle Creek park I’ve caught some really nice bass there using our Scorpion Swim jig pitching them under the willow trees. These are a couple of the public ones but there are a lot of private ones in Southern Polk County if you can obtain permission to fish.

So get out and fish in some phoshate pits.Their’s a good possibility you will catch you a trophy fish. Good luck.

So if you can get access to Phosphate pit fishing by all means do so. You might catch a trophy. Please logon to www.countryboystacklebox.com to see more posts like these.

Fishing in Polk County for bass.

Yet another nice bass falls victim to the Zoom 7″ trick worm. The fishing in Polk County for bass is about to go full steam with the cooling of the water. Bass have been hitting the Zoom 7″ trick worm in just about every lake I go to. They also have been hitting the Scorpion swim jigs. These fish on the jigs have averaging from 5 to 7lbs so far. Not many little ones on the jigs. Just been slowly pumping the jig along swimming it thru the structure whether it be grass, wood or lily pads. I especially like the dollar sized lily pads. With the water cooling down now we’re going to start fishing for some crappie.

Try some phosphate pit fishing

When fishing in Polk County be sure to try some of the incredible fishing in the phosphate pits. The fish pictured above was caught in a phosphate pit in Central Polk County. The fishing gear I was using on this perticular pit was a Lews bait caster and a custom rod that I don’t even know who made it.

The lakes of Polk County are going to start getting hot. In just a few short weeks once the cold fronts start coming thru. The bass will do their usual thing and hit your normal artificials like plastic worms flipped or pitched in heavy weedbeds and Kissimmee grass. They will also be hitting shiners.

I will be hitting some of the lakes around the Frostproff area. Lakes like Lake Buffum, Crooked lake, Lake Reedy,Surveyor lake, and others. You can find some nice bass in some of the smaller sleeper lakes. Polk County has it’s share of lakes and phosphate its to fish in. So if you can get out and do some fishing by all means do so. Good Luck.

Polk County bass fishing.

The bass fishing starting to heat up.

Polk County bass fishing is starting to turn on. I’ve been catching some nice bass on the Scorpion Swim jigs. Black and Blue with a crawbug in the color of junebug with a gold glitter. A bronze gold head and a white skirt with the gold scale pattern.Add an alligator bug to the jig and you have it. A killer combo.

The fish have been hitting these fished slowly along the bottom. With a slow even strokes. As my slogan says I’vebeen giving them a bigger bait. I firmly believe If you wanna catch bigger fish you have to give them a bigger bait.

Most of these fish have been from 5lbs to 7lbs. Also the zoom trick worm has been a good choice for bass. In the junebug with gold flakes. Pictured is a 2lber that my wife caught in Lake Kissimmee on a Zoom trick worm.Be sure to sign up for our monthly newsletter. Just go to the contact ppage and fill out the form and that’s it.

Central Florida has an unlimited amount of lakes to fish in.But Polk County bass fishing has remained steady for quite some time. With good reg’s on the fish we will have a good fishery for a long time. If you are new to the area hire a guide to help you get started.

Along with all the lakes we also have the Peace river. It starts out at Bartow,Fl. and runs all the way to Charlotte harbour. It has quite a few boat launches for kayaks and small aluminum boats. The further you go south the more actual boat ramps you have. During the winter you can go and camp by the riverside when the river is dry. So come give Polk County a try.

Lake Kissimmee fishing

The wife and I went to Lake Kissimmee today and fished hard for some bass and bluegill.

The Lake Kissimmee fishing wasn’t what we hoped for. After fishing what seemed like the whole north end of the lake. We wound up with a half dozen bluegills and a bass of about 2lbs. Hope to do better on the next trip.

The wind died down. And it got still so we decided to go home and try again some other day. Lake Kissimmee in my opinon is one of the top bass lakes in the country. When it’s hot it’s hard to beat.

The bluegill will be going on the beds about April or May. Depending on the cold fronts. It will be time to break out the fishing gear. Bream poles and the cricket cages. Just easing around and dropping the crickets in a hole in the grass and wait for the bite.

Hire a guide

If you have never been to Lake Kissimmee hire a guide. They will help you more than you know. Most use shiners for bait. Nothing can compare to wild shiners for largemouth bass. Shiners are kinda pricey but well worth the money.

As far Lake Kissimmee fishing goes you can use a small boat if the wind is light and not to strong. I have an Alumacraft 16.5ft aluminum john boat. With a 25hp Mercury. I don’t have any problems with this boat if the wind is not blowing hard. Make sure you have a nice livewell in the boat so you can hold live bait or fish.

Well fishing in Polk County is good and good reg’s will keep that way. So if you can get down here to Florida to do some bass fishing go for it. Remember to pick up your trash.

Largemouthbass fishing in Florida.

Catching bass in Polk County will be getting better as the temp’s drop.

Largemouthbass fishing in Florida is at its best as the temp’s drop in the fall. The fish will be trying to fatten up for the upcoming spawn. At the moment the fishing has been good on lake and not so good on another. Starting out with lake Buffum this week. I was able to catch a nice 4lb+ fish on a Zoom 7″ trick worm. In the junebug with the gold glitter. It was about 12:15 pm when it hit. It was in about a 1.5ft of water.

This Saturday I took a drive over to Eagle Lake and caught three bass with a three pounder being the largest. We are into the dog days and the bass are hitting good in the phosphate pits. They are hitting on the CBTB black and blue Scorpion Swim jigs.

Try different methods for bass

Lake Ariana in Auburndale,Fl. has been one of those smaller lakes that has produced big. In recent years I’ve caught some nice bass on this lake. I used frogs to catch some nice bass up to 5lbs. Also used plastic worms to hall in some nice ones. This lake has some deep holes in it so it offers some different types of fishing oppurtunities. While you might get your feet wet launching your boat. It’s well worth it. Good luck.

While we are getting into the dog days the fish will feed in the early morning and afternoon periods.Largemouthbass fishing in Florida can be good all year long. On Eagle Lake I used two different methods to catch my bass. First I moved around casting in open water with a C-tail plastic worm. Then I trolled that same worm and caught two fish using this method.
